The project aimed to empower students to become responsible and informed digital citizens through the lens of STEM education by exploring the intersection of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with core aspects of digital citizenship such as ethics, privacy, security, online communication, and participation.
It was founded with the idea of getting the following aims:
- To equip students with essential skills in both STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and digital citizenship.
- To enhance their understanding of key digital issues such as ethics, privacy, security, and online communication.
- To foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation while developing a responsible and informed approach to using technology.
It was agreed that each group would invent a slogan for the day and would record a video saying it.
Our slogan was 'EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY TO BE SAFE'
Then it was time to create our logo. We decided that each team would present a poster for a competition and then all the teams' posters would be joined to get our logo.
In our team, we made posters individually or in pairs.
Then we voted and chose the one that would represent us in the competition and in the collaborative logo. NORA V.'s was our favourite one.
These are all the posters made by all the partners.
These were the ones chosen by the different teams.
DIGITAL CITY OF THE FUTURE
In this first activity, each school would design a part of the city, representing one of the 10 domains of digital citizenship education.
Students would work create a visually rich representation of the core concepts in each domain.
And also they would write a slogan for
the domain.
In this way, each school would focus on
a particular area of digital citizenship
and design a corresponding city section. This approach will help students understand how different
aspects of digital citizenship play a role in building a responsible and
respectful digital society.
The 10 domains were:
ACCESS AND INCLUSION
LEARNING A CREATIVITY
MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY
ETHICAL VALUES AND EMPATHY
HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
PRESENCE AND COMMUNICATION
ACTIVE PARTICIPATION
RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PRIVACY AND SECURITY
CONSUMER AWARENESS
Our team focused on domains 1 and 9.
We were divided into four teams to find a slogan for each domain. Two teams suggested two for number 1 and the others voted for the one they liked the best and then we exchanged our roles.
The slogans suggested for domain 1 were:
- Make the world an open door
- Opening a door of opportunities
We chose: OPENING A DOOR OF OPPORTUNITIES
The slogans we suggested for domain 9 were:
- Secure your privacy
- Protecting your Internet is protecting your life
We chose: PROTECTING YOUR INTERNET IS PROTECTING YOUR LIFE
Let's make infographics about the different domains of the 'DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION GUIDE' so that everybody (students, teachers and families) can learn more about this topic.
Follow the instructions that appear in the Learning Situation (Session 1) whose link I've shared with you on Teams.
Apart from that, take these aspects into account:
- If you don't have an account on Canva, don't create it. Use our common email to log in, I've already created an account with it.
- Use the images given by the website or upload Creative Commons ones.
- When dealing with interactive elements, you can use links to the document or to useful and trustful websites that you can find. Once you have chosen them, show them to me.
- Be careful with the font (type, size, ..) and colours you choose so that your work can be easily read and seen.
- Ask me if you have problems working on the website.
Then, you can also see the following video tutorial at home:
- When your work is ready, insert the link on the Padlet as I've explained in this lesson.
On 10th April we had our first meeting with other students to introduce ourselves and give our opinions about the project.
We celebrated eTwinning and Europe Day by reflecting on being a European citizen, citizenship education and how eTwinning helps to bring us together. These topics are related to eTwinning annual theme: 'CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION, CELEBRATING WHAT UNITES US'.
We decided to create our sustainable schools, but before doing this, we had to reflect on the meaning of sustainable schools.
