This new project aimed at students of 3rd ESO Bil. appeared to celebrate the European Day of Languages and strengthen its importance.
There were participants from three countries:
Italy
Lamezia Terme
Pescara
Telese Terme
Spain
Bellpuig, Catalonia
La Pola Siero, Asturias
Turkey
Bandirma
Merkez
Şehitkamil
This is our project board at school.
The teachers had their first meeting before lessons started to plan it carefully.
Few days later, they had another meeting to continue planning.
While we were waiting for the project to be approved, we didn't want to waste time and we started doing basic activities.
PRE-SURVEY FOR TEACHERS: RESULTS
PRE-SURVEY FOR STUDENTS: RESULTS
The European Day of Languages came and we wanted to celebrate it.
- We learnt FACTS
- We watched a video about the evolution of languages
- We filled a POLL about why it is important to learn languages
- We spoke about our language skills.
- We shared our tips to learn a foreign language
- We played games:
KAHOOT
The students made a PRESENTATION ABOUT THEIR COUNTRIES for the online meeting they held in December.
Then we made badges and invented fake news related to languages.
These are the results of all the teams:
Then there was a poll to choose the best badge and the best fake news.
We chose Lluvia's badge and Leire's news.
We voted for the best badge and the best fake news.
And the winner came from Lamezia Terme, Italy.
And the winner came from Pescara, Italy.
When some members could log in the new platform (although we had to continue waiting), students introduced themselves.
It was time to choose a title for our project. There were several suggestions from teachers and students:
- LLOD (LANGUAGE LEARNING OPENS DOORS)
- LINGOZONE
- LBPT (LANGUAGES BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER)
- WORDS IN CIRCLE
- BABEL (BREAK DOWN BARRIERS WITH LANGUAGES)
- BABEL (BUILDING ABIDING BONDS WITH EUROPEAN LANGUAGES)
- EVERYDAY OBTAIN LANGUAGES
- EXCELLENT DAY OF LEARNING
- EDUCATIONAL DAY ONLINE LESSON
AND THE WINNER WAS ....... LINGOZONE (Suggested by a Turkish teacher).
Once our project had a name, it was time to design our logo.
These were the Spanish creations.
And we voted to choose the one that would represent our team.
This was the result:
These were all the logos made:
Then we got our project logo by joining all the ones that teams had chosen to represent them.
The teachers had another meeting at the end of November to speak about our next tasks.
The students made a PRESENTATION ABOUT THEIR COUNTRIES for the online meeting they held in December.
It was used as a basis for a KAHOOT that they played all together.
The meeting was AWESOME!!!
Students from different teams suggested tips for learning languages: in our team Carla & Lucía were in charge of listening, Ana & Julen dealt with reading, Nerea & Berta thought about writing, Alba A. & Llara suggested ideas for speaking and Carlota & Vega gave tips for integrated skills.
The aim was to make a collaborative infographic using the best ones.
We also made a 2023 calendar, each team was responsible for a month.
Some students from different teams were matched to create digital cards for each other. Covadonga and Irene were the ones in charge of this task. These are the results:
In January teachers had a meeting to coordinate the last steps of the project.
The first thing was to think about an activity to celebrate SAFER INTERNET DAY.
It was agreed that there would be a meeting to play a collaborative game.
Some teams would think of questions related to this date and the others would multiple choice answers.
These were two of the websites where students could search for information:
We had a meeting to celebrate SID.
Since there had been an earthquake in Turkey and Syria, first we held a minute of silence.
Then the students had a great time playing the game.
At the end there was an evaluation activity related to the meeting.
The Spanish team also dealt with the topic in class by discussing and working on the content of some workshops carried out by INCIBE:
In March we held the 5th teachers' meeting to organize the final steps.
We had a slogan contest. The teams wrote their slogans and chose the one that would represent them. Then, the students would react to them to choose the best.
The one that we chose was written by Ana:
'A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE IS A DIFFERENT VISION OF LIFE'
We voted for our favourite slogan.
As a final task, there was a collaborative game.
Students from the different teams made 5 groups in such a way that there were representatives of each team in all the groups.
Each group was in charge of writing questions for a common game on the forum and on a collaborative EXCEL document and they were guided by the teachers since each of them was responsible for a group.
These were the topics that each group had to think about:
1. The European Day of Languages.: languages spoken in the EU, when it started, main aims, Turkish languages and its language roots.
2. Indo European, most important language groups and Romance languages.
3. German languages, Slavic languages and language abilities.
4. CEFR
All the students were asked to analyse it and find their level.
5. Most important examples of certifications and why people need to certificate. (Cambridge - Dele - Delf - Goethe)
They could find some information on these websites:

Groups 2 and 3:

Group 5:
At the end of May we had our final meeting to play the game. It was great!!!
There was a FINAL QUIZ that was also useful as a survey to check how much our students have learnt.
Since it's good to know what has been well or what needs improving, there were post-surveys for the teachers and the students.
These are the results of the students' post-survey:
We put all the photos that showed our working process together.
We saw the topic of travelling in our lessons, so in teams the Spanish students planned their holidays in different countries, including the ones involved in the project.
We thought about eTwinning and innovation, its theme of the year, to celebrate eTwinning Day.
